An essential feature of Steffen Blunk‘s creative work is exploring the power images have over viewers. He succeeds in luring observers into his artistically nuanced paintings before confronting them with parts of their own memory or imagination. True to the words of the American visual studies scholar W. J. T. Mitchell: “They (the pictures) are ghostly apparitions that materialize before our eyes or in our imagination.”
