I make figurative oil paintings portraying abandoned rooms in different states of decay. Empty rooms filled with what used to be – traces of past lives. I am absorbed by expressing the beauty of decay and by capturing an atmosphere and awaken a sensation that is contemporary and existential. Openings, choices, and possibilities takes form as open doors, windows, and staircases going up, down and into my paintings. I hope that my art will bring opportunity to reflect on the issues of our time e.g., perfectionism, perishableness, and sustainability. Forget the perfect, hard, and polished surface, for there is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in. My rooms are filled with stains, crookedness and crazing as well as stuff falling appart. It is because of these imperfections an atmosphere of human kindness begins.
